Why this matters
Bermuda’s critical data — financial records, government systems, personal information, corporate filings, healthcare records — is overwhelmingly stored and processed off-island, in jurisdictions Bermuda does not control. The island lacks sovereign data-centre infrastructure at any meaningful scale, has no national platform layer, and its connectivity backbone is limited. In an era where data sovereignty is increasingly recognised as a national-security issue — where the jurisdiction in which data is stored determines which laws apply to it and which governments can compel access — Bermuda’s digital infrastructure is almost entirely foreign-hosted. This is the digital equivalent of the energy problem: total dependence on external systems, with no fallback and no control.
L32 Digital is being developed as a sovereign data-centre facility — designed for continuous operation with no single points of failure. The facility has its own dedicated on-site MCFC power generation, completely separate from the flagship energy campus’s community-facing generation described under L32 Energy.
The combined heat and power output from the data-centre’s MCFC installation drives absorption cooling — eliminating conventional mechanical chillers and dramatically reducing the facility’s energy footprint for cooling, which in Bermuda’s subtropical climate would otherwise be the single largest operating cost.
Within the physical shell, the BDTA Architecture runs on open, interoperable standards — compute, cloud and applications can come from many providers. What none of them can supply is the sovereign layer beneath: the Bermuda Security Wrapper, known as Nonsuch, which binds identity, accountability, and jurisdiction to every workload it touches, enforceable under Bermuda law. That is a control plane, not a data plane — L32 does not compete with cloud and compute providers, it secures and governs what runs on top of them. A dedicated fibre and wireless connectivity backbone connects the data centre to the island’s institutions, businesses, government agencies, and L32’s own platforms.

BDTA — the Bermuda Digital Trust Architecture — is built on open standards, so digital sovereignty is never vendor-dependent: Bermuda’s data infrastructure doesn’t become a hostage to any single technology provider’s roadmap. What secures BDTA end-to-end is the Bermuda Security Wrapper, known as Nonsuch — a sovereign wrapper that anchors every workload’s identity and accountability under Bermuda law, verifiable on demand. It is the one layer no outside cloud or compute vendor can supply, because it isn’t a technology product — it’s a jurisdictional guarantee. That distinction is what makes the opportunity bigger than one data centre: a sovereign platform lets Bermuda safeguard its own critical state data today, and, in time, offer the same guarantee to others who need a trusted, neutral jurisdiction for theirs. The architecture supports sovereign identity, secure data storage, application hosting, and AI/ML compute capacity — all governed under one wrapper, one jurisdiction, one accountable structure.
How Digital connects to everything
L32 Digital is the nervous system of the entire platform — the coordinating layer. Smart building operations in L32 Living: energy monitoring, climate control, maintenance scheduling. Grid management for L32 Energy: generation dispatch, storage cycling, demand forecasting. Food monitoring for L32 Food: glasshouse climate, nutrient delivery, crop-yield tracking. Workforce credentialing for L32 Academy: training records, certification, skills-matching. Without L32 Digital, the other platforms are separate projects. With it, they are one integrated platform.
